Hon. Sathya Naidu represents Seychelles at AYPN regional dialogue in South Africa |23 May 2026

The National Assembly of Seychelles was represented by Hon. Sathya Naidu at the ‘Regional Parliamentary Dialogue on Political Party and Campaign Financing Transparency’, held in Cape Town, South Africa, from May 4 to 7, 2026.
Organised by the African Young Parliamentarians Network (AYPN) in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Anti-Corruption and Financial Crime Hub for Africa, and supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Regional Programme for Political Dialogue in Sub-Saharan Africa, the dialogue brought together young parliamentarians from across the continent, with strong participation from Southern Africa. Delegates included representatives of electoral management bodies, anti-corruption institutions, financial intelligence units, civil society organisations, and governance experts.
Over four days, participants engaged in discussions on critical themes such as political party and campaign financing transparency, electoral reform, anti-corruption strategies, money laundering risks, illicit financial flows, democratic accountability, and the role of parliamentarians in strengthening public trust in electoral processes.
Reflecting on the dialogue, Hon. Naidu underscored its relevance to Seychelles, stressing the importance of ensuring that elections are guided by principles, integrity, and sound policies rather than financial influence.
He highlighted the need for greater transparency in political and campaign financing, alongside a shift in voter mindset towards issue-based politics.
Hon. Naidu also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with fellow young parliamentarians from across Africa, describing it as a privilege to be among leaders committed to integrity in public office.
He emphasised that youth participation in governance is vital to safeguarding Africa’s future.
As part of the outcomes, participants developed national action plans and regional recommendations to advance transparency and integrity within their respective parliaments.
Hon. Naidu noted that the effective implementation of these commitments would further demonstrate the value and importance of AYPN, including for Seychelles.
