FPAC prepares for public hearing of Auditor General’s 2024 report

The Finance and Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, chaired by the leader of the opposition Hon. Bernard Georges, convened a committee preparatory meeting on Thursday April 2, 2026.

The aim of the meeting was to scrutinise the report of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) for the year 2024, finalise the dates for the public hearings during the incoming recess, and decide on the schedule for the pre-hearing briefings that traditionally take place to ensure committee members are prepared.

The committee reviewed its schedule for the public hearings which are planned to take place early in May 2026. Further matters were heavily discussed relating to the committee’s work plan especially in relation to widening its scrutiny and accountability of public enterprises in Seychelles.

Termed as ‘Pre-hearing briefings in parliamentary settings’, the committee will be hosting meetings with different concerned entities in order to gather information and prepare for the public hearings on the 2024 report of the OAG. This includes carrying out internal meetings to review financial analyses and information.

These public hearings, together with the preparatory engagements, form a key mechanism through which the committee holds public entities accountable and ensures that audit findings are addressed effectively, while facilitating well-informed discussions and contributing to the formulation of effective recommendations during the hearings.

In addition to the preparatory aspects of the discussions, the committee also tabled other matters relating to financial scrutiny in Seychelles, as well as regional work pertaining to the strategic review of the constitution of the Southern Africa Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC). The FPAC remains a very active member of the SADCOPAC and currently sits as the deputy treasurer and member of the governing council.

The meeting was presided over by Hon. Georges, who was joined by vice chairperson Hon. Churchill Gill and committee members Hons. Georges Romain, Cecile Larsen, Sandy Arissol and Conrad Gabriel. Technical and administrative support was provided by the deputy clerk, Alexandria Faure, alongside parliamentary service staff Ranishaa Chetty and Lucy Michel.

The FPAC remains committed to promoting good governance, transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
