Seychelles secures 7 percent increase on EU fisheries agreement

 

Seychelles has agreed to a seven percent augmentation under a new Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement with the European Union, following recent negotiations.

This was announced by President Patrick Herminie during a press conference held yesterday at State House.

President Herminie noted that Seychelles had initially pushed for a 30 percent profit share. However, due to ongoing economic pressures linked to instability in the Gulf region, a compromise was reached. Principal Minister Wallace Cosgrow agreed to the seven percent figure last Thursday, with only the formal signing of the agreement remaining. According to President Herminie, the government believes this outcome represents the most realistic and achievable result, given current uncertainties arising from the Gulf conflict.
