172 kg of waste intercepted in Anse Boileau coastal cleanup

 

On February 28, community members and partner organisations joined forces at Anse Boileau for a coastal cleanup led by Parley Seychelles.

Volunteers worked along the stretch of beach from the district administration’s office to the statue of the Virgin Mary, intercepting 172.12 kilogrammes of litter before it could reach the ocean. Of this, 77.39 kg was plastic and 94.73 kg was non-plastic waste.

Parley Seychelles noted that during a similar cleanup in 2023, volunteers collected a staggering 408 kg of waste. The sharp reduction this year points to the impact of sustained awareness, community engagement, and regular interventions. Yet, as Parley emphasised, “beyond the numbers lies the real success of the day — the people”.
