Football - Victoria City struck off the SFF’s list after skipping two matches |20 December 2019
First division club Victoria City are no more a registered member of the Seychelles Football Federation and will no longer take part in any competition organised by the federation during the 2019-2020 football season.
The decision was taken after Victoria City decided to forfeit their SeyPearl Premier League match against Côte d’Or on Wednesday and not to take part in the Airtel Cup. Coincidentally, Victoria City were to play against the same Côte d’Or team on Saturday in the Airtel Cup.
Victoria City, who were playing top flight football for the first time, had written to Clive Delorié, the Seychelles Football Federation’s (SFF) director of competition, to inform them that the club will not be taking part in the Airtel Cup competition.
According to ‘independent sports journalist’ Gerry Sopha, who is responsible to disseminate information regarding the SFF, “all in line with transparency and to avoid allegations and misconception, missing two consecutive matches, regardless of the competition is automatic dismissal and removal from the federation’s list for the season”.
Victoria City got automatic promotion to play first division football after winning the second division league last season, finishing ahead of Real Maldives.
