Fifa MA beach soccer referee course under way

A five-day Fédération Internationale de Football Association Member Association (MA) Beach Soccer Referee Course commenced yesterday, bringing together 18 local referees eager to enhance their knowledge and skills in one of the world’s fastest-growing variations of football.

The course is being led by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) instructor Lakshdar Benchabena, an internationally recognised specialist with extensive experience in referee development across multiple continents.

The programme was officially opened by Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) vice-president Dolor Ernesta during a ceremony at the Maison Football, Roche Caïman, in the presence of senior SFF officials. In his remarks, Mr Ernesta welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of the initiative. He noted that as the game progresses globally, it is crucial for Seychellois referees to continuously upgrade themselves with new rules and regulations.

He further added that, with Seychelles being a nation surrounded by beaches, the country should seize the opportunity to encourage and promote the game of beach soccer, both for local development and potential international involvement.
