A record-breaking return!

A record-breaking return!

Last week, the Island Conservation Society’s team working on Desroches recorded the longest-ever tag recovery of the island – a Hawksbill Turtle first tagged in 2010 has returned to nest again in 2025.

What's more incredible is that she came ashore and nested just 140 metres from the spot where she was first tagged!

This is an incredible reminder of how faithfully these turtles return to their natal beaches. Moments like this show the value of long-term monitoring – and the resilience of the Hawksbill population we work hard to protect.
