Cabinet approves higher stipends for government-sponsored students
The Cabinet, which met from Monday November 17 to Wednesday November 19, has approved a major revision of stipends for students on government scholarships to better reflect the rising cost of living in their countries of study.
The decision follows a detailed review, which showed that existing stipend rates, many of which have not changed since 2019, no longer match the real cost of living after the Covid-19 pandemic, and recent global economic and geopolitical challenges. The new stipends will take effect from January 1, 2026.
