Turning waste into growth: Ocean Growth Fertilizer leads a green farming revolution
In Seychelles, where the ocean is both a lifeline and a source of pride, one young entrepreneur is proving that sustainability can start at home – and even from waste.
At just 28 years old, Shahiid Melanie, founder of Ocean Growth Fertiliser (OGF), is transforming fish waste into valuable organic fertiliser, offering a circular, homegrown solution to two pressing national challenges: waste management and food security. Registered on September 29, 2023, OGF began much earlier as a family experiment. “It all started with the aim to add new ways of farming to my dad’s farm,” said Shahiid. “We have never used chemicals before; we mostly use ash, manure and compost,” Shahiid explained.
