The High Seas Treaty has reached the 60 state ratifications needed for it to enter into force, marking a significant milestone for global ocean protection.

Seychelles was the third country to approve the ratification of the High Seas Treaty, which was proposed by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2015, with the primary aim of ensuring the sustainable use and conservation of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. The National Assembly gave its green light for ratification in March 2024.
