‘Our Ocean, Our Obligation, and Our Opportunity’

Today, September 25, Seychelles joins the rest of the world to mark World Maritime Day. This year’s theme is ‘Our Ocean, Our Obligation, and Our Opportunity’.

The day was created by the United Nations (UN) through the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and is set aside to celebrate the achievements of the maritime industry within the context of bettering the world economy. The first World Maritime Day was celebrated in 1978, and at the time the IMO had only 21 members. To date, this has increased to 167 members and three associate members.
