CBS facilitates outreach to improve banking access for stevedores and dockworkers

The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS), in collaboration with the Seychelles Bankers Association (SBA), hosted an outreach event for stevedores and dockworkers on Saturday August 2, 2025 at Zone 14, Ile Du Port.

The half-day event aimed to enhance financial inclusion by providing stevedores and dockworkers, an essential segment of the Seychelles workforce that often faces challenges in accessing banking services, with valuable financial knowledge.

The initiative supports the transition of their financial activities into the formal banking system by encouraging them to open bank accounts, which offers greater financial security and improved access to various financial products and services.

In preparation for the event, a series of meetings were conducted involving Central Bank of Seychelles, port operators that employ dockworkers, Seychelles Bankers Association, commercial banks and Seychelles Credit Union.

The purpose of these meetings was to align expectations of all stakeholders and ensure a smooth process on the day of the event.

This event was carried out as a pilot project aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of this type of outreach, such that similar initiatives targeting other underserved segments of the population may be conducted in the future.

This initiative reflects the banking sector’s continued commitment to advancing financial inclusion and ensuring that all segments of the population have access to the tools and services needed for financial empowerment.
