Seychelles celebrates 10 years of the Blue Economy: A decade of impact and a vision for the future

This July, Seychelles marks a pivotal milestone: ten years since the creation of the Department of the Blue Economy, a world-first initiative that placed the ocean at the heart of national development.

Under the 2025 tagline ‘One Ocean for Today and Tomorrow’s Generation’, the nation is not only celebrating past achievements, but boldly reaffirming its role as a global leader in sustainable ocean governance.

At the heart of these success stories lies a fundamental philosophy: these three values are not mutually exclusive they can and must coexist. But such a delicate balance doesn’t happen by chance. It requires a strong legal foundation, an enabling environment, and, crucially, a coordinating entity.
