Aldabra’s rat and cat eradication feasibility work achieves major milestones

Fieldwork for the rat and cat eradication feasibility study has been underway since April 2024. Over the past year, significant effort and dedication have gone into this critical phase of the project, which has now reached the halfway point of the overall workplan.

In January 2025, the core team was strengthened with the addition of three experienced SIF field staff from the Vallée de Mai and Fond Ferdinand, and the feasibility consultant, Dr David Ringler. This increased capacity, enabling the team to finally complete cutting and demarcation of the core monitoring grids and transects needed for the remaining work.
