Strong progress and fierce racing at Champions Park Raceway

The momentum continues for the Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) as Champions Park Raceway hosted another exciting double-feature weekend, combining youth development and championship action.

Saturday April 12 – Academy Juniors and SKA Girls training 2

The SKA welcomed its second Academy training group- the larger of the two – made up of teens aged 13+ and the growing SKA Girls on Track programme. With great energy and determination, the young participants revisited key lessons from their first session and continued expanding their knowledge of racing, including new terminology, flag communication, and driving techniques.

With support from parents and guardians, the trainers guided the group through practical exercises and laps around Champions Park Raceway. Spirits were high, and many corrected earlier mistakes, showing clear progress. Training 3 for the full cohort is expected to take place in May, furthering SKA’s commitment to developing confident, capable young racers.

Sunday April 13 – Championship Round 2: Clubman and Extreme

The following day saw round 2 of the 2025 Championship unfold with thrilling races in the 4T Clubman and 4T Extreme classes. Though the KF2 group postponed their session (new date to follow), the action-packed races delivered heart-pounding moments from start to finish.

4T Clubman

After a close-fought round 1, this time it was Lecxus Liu-Chit-Chon who controlled both the pre-final and final, holding firm at the front of the pack. He also recorded the fastest lap of the day in Clubman with a 46.124 seconds.

The battle behind him raged fiercely. The previous week’s winner Adam Ally had to fight off pressure from Marlon Talma, Keanu Teeroomooljee, and rookie Illa Savelov. A mid-race tangle between Adam and Illa cost him second place in the final, as Keanu and Marlon capitalised to secure second and third respectively.

4T Extreme

The Extreme class lived up to its name, with Darryl Gabriel on pole but facing relentless pressure from Mitra Labrosse, Eric Maillet, and Jean-David Melanie throughout both races. The close battles saw daring overtakes, with the top four never more than a few kart lengths apart.

Jean-David Melanie clocked the fastest lap of the day in Extreme with 45.881 seconds, proving just how close the competition remains.

Jhohan Cadeau maintained pace with the leaders in the final, while Terence Anderson and Dean Maillet completed the order in sixth and seventh.

What’s next

The back-to-back weekends have injected great momentum into the 2025 season, but the SKA now faces renewed uncertainty over access to the Roche Caïman sports complex, with a few scheduled events hanging in the balance.
