Government holds consultation on EIA regulation review |28 March 2025

The Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE) hosted a key stakeholder consultation yesterday to discuss the review of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations of 1996.
The meeting, held at the SITE auditorium, aimed to gather input from various stakeholders on updating the regulations, to align with international best practices and environmental protection goals.
The EIA regulation, which has been in place since 1996, has played a crucial role in balancing development with environmental protection. However, due to evolving environmental challenges and new technologies, MACCE is working on updating it to ensure it remains relevant.
Principal secretary for the Environment, Denis Matatiken, highlighted the importance of EIAs in helping the government to maintain a balance between development and sustainability.
