Pointe Larue S3 students gain insight into hospitality careers at Kempinski Resort

The district administration office of Anse Aux Pins, in collaboration with Pointe Larue secondary school, accompanied a group of S3 students, who will be transitioning to S4 next year, on an educational visit to the Kempinski Resort last week as part of their career exploration programme.

This educational visit aimed to introduce students to various hotel departments and operations, helping them make informed decisions about their future career paths in the hospitality industry.

At the beginning of the visit, students received an overview of the services offered at the Kempinski Resort, including accommodation, dining, wellness and recreational activities.

They also learned about the various hotel facilities that contribute to a luxury guest experience, such as high-end restaurants and bars, spa and wellness centre, gym, swimming pools, housekeeping and guest services.

During their visit, the students had a hands-on experience at the resort’s bar section, where they learned how to prepare a mojito, a classic cocktail made without alcohol, guided by professional bartenders.

They discovered the importance of measuring and mixing ingredients correctly, garnishing and presenting drinks attractively and providing excellent customer service behind the bar.

Visiting the laundry section, students actively participated in various tasks, including learning how to iron different types of fabrics using professional ironing equipment and understanding the role of laundry in maintaining high hygiene standards.

The visit to the Kempinski Resort provided students with hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the daily operations within a luxury hotel.

Although they could not visit all departments, they were able to engage in meaningful activities that broadened their knowledge of hospitality careers.

As they prepare to choose their career paths in S4, this exposure will help them make informed decisions based on their interests and strengths.

“The students expressed great enthusiasm throughout the visit, with many showing a newfound interest in hotel management, hospitality and tourism,” said the district administrator, Nigel Payet.

The accompanying photos show the students during their educational visit at the Kempinski Resort.
