Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort – Always ready to help the community |27 November 2019
One of the oldest players in the tourism industry on Praslin, the Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort remains an icon in Côte D’Or, renowned as the ‘touristic village’ of the island. Known as one of the breeding grounds for many tourism professionals on the island, the 79-room hotel currently has a workforce of 81 staff, among whom 50 are locals.
The hotel, which opened its doors on December 24, 1984, has experienced many chances over these 34 years, but one thing has remained constant; its willingness to assist the Praslin community. An attribute which all Praslinois will agree ought to be commended!
“We’ve ventured into many activities with different individuals and organisations, always ready to offer our help wherever possible. We do not always advertise these deeds as we not believe in such, but we are glad to note that our action is appreciated by the community,” Sindy Cedras, human resource manager, shared with us.
This year alone, the establishment hosted a day of activities at the Anse Kerlan crèche on the occasion of Children’s Day. A group of staff entertained the kids with different costumes, a bouncing castle, various games and a sumptuous lunch. The Praslin disabled was also hosted for lunch and a ‘Sport’s Day’ at the establishment’s beach front. On their day, the senior citizens received lunch boxes and many individuals have been assisted on a more personal level. These are to name of few.
Terrestrial Restoration Action Society of Seychelles (Trass) is another association which the Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort greatly supports with occasional site clearing works, tree planting activities and recently hosting its 10th anniversary celebrations.
The establishment also partners very well with other tourism establishments on the island. For the past 2 years, the ‘Food Fiesta’ which is organised as part of the tourism week activities, has been hosted by the Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort. An activity joining various tourism establishments on the island while providing them with an opportunity to showcase their products and services. This in itself assists in solidifying the networks and unity among tourism establishments and the Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort is proud to have been part of this successful event.
On Saturday, the hotel will be among the main sponsors of the ‘Brave the Shave Family Fun Day’, a fundraiser for Cancer Concern Association Praslin in order to build a hospice for Praslinois patients requiring palliative care.
“As the saying goes, ‘It is not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving’, therefore we always encourage our staff to participate in our charity activities. We must admit, that this has instilled in them a culture of service towards others and today we are grateful to them for all we have been able to accomplish for the Praslin community as a team,” Miss Cedras revealed after being asked about the willingness of the staff to participate in such activities.
The establishment aspires to continue on its quest of playing an important role in Praslin’s betterment. It’s active participation in the island’s development does not go unnoticed and is surely cherished.
