Relocation of standby generators from Dan Goulo to L’Union Estate on La Digue |22 February 2025

As part of an urgent response to damage sustained by an undersea cable connecting Praslin to La Digue,

the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) temporarily installed two standby generators on La Digue in 2019.

At the time, Dan Goulo was identified as the most technically viable location given the existing electricity

This location was a temporary solution pending the identification of a permanent site and the necessary

upgrades to the electricity network, including the construction of a new substation.

Having identified a permanent location at L’Union Estate, and further to the completion of the required

substation, PUC proceeded with the relocation of the standby generators in mid-February 2025. The

relocation work was undertaken by UCPS over a period of six days and involved the mobilisation of barge, specialised vehicle, transportation services on La Digue, and subsequent demobilisation.

Ongoing works being undertaken by PUC staff entail the reassembly of the standby generators and

connection of the new set-up to the substation. The project is expected to be completed during the

course of next week.

The generators will remain on standby in order to ensure continuity of supply under circumstances where power cannot be transferred to La Digue from Praslin.

PUC wishes to thank the residents of La Digue for their cooperation and patience during the relocation
