US government bans TikTok |20 January 2025

Since Saturday evening, TikTok, the world’s most popular social media app that contains short-form videos, has been banned in the United States, affecting 170 million Americans users and others worldwide. 

Visitors to the app were met with a message reading: “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”

Owned by Chinese company ByteDance, TikTok has been at the centre of a geopolitical debate, especially in the United States for quite some time.
