More than R100 million injected in various educational infrastructure |19 November 2019
Ahead of the December school holidays, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development have met the press to give a detailed report on ongoing projects in 2019. The principal secretary, Dr Odile de Commarmond, the director general of early childhood Cyril Pillay, the special advisor to the Minister Merida Delcy and Jones Belmont, the consultant project of the MEERD, talked about the various projects.
Civil Works undertaken for approximately R90 million
Anse Aux Pins Primary: Boundary wall & renovation works (on-going)
Pointe Larue primary & crèche: Roofing & tiling works, supply and fix aluminium windows and doors for air-tightening and plumbing works
Plaisance primary: General renovation works.
Total contract sum amounts to R4 million, Indian Grant R2 million and R2.1 million from government (Work on-going)
Plaisance secondary: General rehabilitation works
La Rosière crèche: Improve recreational grounds
Tiling and paint works in 7 crèches: Anse Etoile; Grand Anse Mahé; Takamaka; La Rosière, English River, Les Mamelles, Plaisance, Pointe Larue
Baie Lazare primary & crèche: Rehabilitation works (on-going)
Belonie: Emergency works – Relocated to NISTI (Bel Ombre)
La Rosière: Emergency works – Relocated to Belonie secondary school
Mont Fleuri primary: Remedial work and extension (new block)
Perseverance crèche: Tiling and upgrading work to improve ventilation
Cascade primary: Improvement of crèche and administration block and renovation of old toilet blocks at the primary school
La Rosière crèche: Improvement of recreational grounds
Grand Anse Praslin primary and crèche: Additional block for primary and renovation work to accommodate crèche
Praslin secondary school: Construction of new block and upgrading of toilet blocks
Au Cap: General renovation and upgrading of toilets, air tightening, re-roofing, renovation of drain, upgrading of floor lobby area, external painting and renovation of security kiosk.
Anse Royale secondary: Boundary wall, plumbing system, rehabilitation of classrooms, administration block, staffroom and resource room, external painting, air tightening, repairs of staircase and links.
La Retraite primary: Upgrading of tuck-shop
Perseverance primary: Mould treatment
Port Glaud primary: Replacement of chain-link fence
Anse Boileau secondary: New block: construction of dining room and classrooms.
Beau Vallon secondary: Renovation of admin block and all classrooms, upgrading of TE block and connection of septic tank onto the sewage system
Mont Fleuri secondary: Upgrading of five science labs and provision of furniture, upgrading of 2 toilet blocks and upgrading of admin block, library and staffroom
SBSA: Renovation works in offices and replacement of windows to aluminium
SIAD: Extensive repairs to roof
SIAH: Relocation works at Grand Anse Mahé primary school and at Anse Boileau agricultural centre to accommodate SIAH
SITE: Upgrading of four toilet blocks for students and eight individual toilets for staff
Youth Hostel: Renovation works on six blocks. Works awarded
Water Tanks Project: Installation of water tanks in crèches, primary and secondary schools
Electrical works for a total of R11 million were conducted in the following schools
Baie Lazare primary; Mont Fleuri secondary; English River secondary; Plaisance primary; Grand Anse Mahé primary; Glacis primary; Anse Boileau primary; Pointe Larue primary; Plaisance secondary; Au Cap primary; Perseverance primary; Anse Royale secondary; Anse Royale crèche; Bel Eau primary; Sals; SIAD and Takamaka primary
INDIAN GRANT Project Name: Construction of Boundary Wall and Drive-way at Anse Boileau Secondary School
Contract Amount: R2,383,422.50
Details of Work: Boundary wall around the school, drive-way to the dining block, pedestrian pavements, drainage channels, raising the level of the playing area
- Project Name: General Renovation at English River Secondary School
Contract Amount: R2,177,780
Details of work: Floor screeding; replacement of the ceiling boards; reinstatement of windows and burglar proofing; changing of doors; general painting; electrical fittings; replacement of blackboards, soft-boards and white boards
- Project Name: General Renovation Works at Grand Anse Praslin Primary School
Contract Amount: R1,747,734
Details of work: Supply and installation of aluminium windows on the P3/P4 block; reinstatement of ceiling; floor screeding; repairs in the washrooms; general painting; electrical fittings; replacement of blackboards, soft boards and white boards
- Project Name: General Renovation Works and External Court at Mont Fleuri Secondary School
Contract Amount: R2,433,192.25
Details of work: Floor screeding; replacement of the ceiling boards; reinstatement of windows and burglar proofing; changing of doors; general painting; electrical fittings; replacement of blackboards, soft-boards and white boards; construction of an external court. The scope of the works is only limited to S3-S5 and S1-S2 blocks
- Project Name: General Renovation Works at Plaisance Primary School and Crèche
Contract Amount: The cost for general renovation works at Plaisance primary school and crèche is R4,004,114.60
Details of work: Floor screeding; replacement of the ceiling boards; reinstatement of windows and burglar proofing; changing of doors; general painting; electrical fittings; replacement of blackboards, soft-boards and white boards; sanitary ware; construction of 470m boundary wall and emergency gates; covered walkway between the primary school and the crèche
- Procurement of fence for schools R3 million
NOTE: Total value of Indian Grant projects is R15,746,243.35. (From India we received R12,314,541.93. Government to cover shortfall of R3,431,741.42)
