Virtual training on countering drug trafficking in penitentiary system |07 March 2024
Selected staff from the Seychelles Prison Service and two from the Seychelles Police attended a two-day virtual training on Thursday and Friday last week on countering drug trafficking within a penitentiary setting.
This was at the invitation of the head of the European delegation to Seychelles and Mauritius, Ambassador Oskar Benedikt.
The two-day session under the TAIEX programme addressed issues related to drug trafficking within the Mauritius Prison Service facilities and countering them.
Other modules of training delivered by two prison experts from Spain and Finland covered reviewing of rehabilitation methods and recommendations for improvement, offender-profiling techniques including new technologies, control security and prevention of drug trafficking, drug abuse prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
TAIEX is the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission. It supports public administrations with regard to the approximation, application and enforcement of EU legislation as well as facilitating the sharing of EU best practices. It is largely needs-driven and delivers appropriate tailor-made expertise to address issues.
Commissioner of Seychelles Prison Service, Raymond St Ange, extended his thanks to Ambassador Benedikt for the invitation and to the Mauritian Prison Service for the opportunity to participate and understand issues at hand and the proactive approach of the MPS.
