Sports Awards of the Year 2023: Public Opinion |01 March 2024
Many believe Boxing will triumph
With the Sports Awards 2023 crowning ceremony taking place tonight at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, Sports NATION sought out some views of the public on who they think will win the prestigious award.
St Louis FC’s forward Darian Hoareau said he believes that track and field athlete Ivan Moïse is the favourite to win the top award for 2023.
“He has performed very well in the 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOG) and also at local level, and my opinion is that he stands a chance to be on the podium. But also keeping in mind that boxer Keddy Agnes has a great chance of winning the award as well. As for the women, I have not quite followed their achievements, but I have a hunch that Natasha Chetty could win the award,” said the St Louis FC number ten.
Fast food server and operator Michel Rigodon strongly believes that Wallace Dorasamy will win the title. “He has worked very hard in 2023, and he has made our country proud at international competitions, such as in England and South Africa in men’s physique and bodybuilding.
For the ladies, it would be nice for the volleyball players to step on the podium as they have contributed great results, but it will be tight as I think that swimming also would be among the favourites to win,” said Rigodon.
Carlos Roucou, who has recently qualified for the Indian Ocean Championship regional dance tournament, is rooting for track and field athlete Natasha Chetty, saying she deserves the title.
“She has been performing very well overseas and it would be nice to see a new face winning the prestigious award, while for the men, I believe that Keddy Agnes will surely be the one to take the trophy home.
“It is also worth to note that dance has had some great achievements and it would be rewarding if there could be a slot in the award ceremony to recognise those in this category,” said Roucou.
Maggie Rose from Perseverance North primary school believes that Keddy Agnes will prevail and take the award for best male athlete for 2023.
“Keddy Agnes deserves the title as he has performed very well throughout the year and I do not think that it will not go his way, while for the ladies, I am not too sure as the final five is very tight,” said Ms Rose.
Sandy Victor also believes that Keddy Agnes will be crowned as the best male athlete for 2023.
“I have watched him work very hard and in my opinion, if he wins, it will be well deserved. I also believe that the people of Seychelles will agree with me on that one. As for the women, I would say I have not followed them closely,” said Victor.
Michel James greatly believes that pugilist Keddy Agnes will win the title.
“What makes me say this is that I have been watching his achievements from his tournaments, including the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) and I am positive that he will do it. As for the ladies, I believe, once again, Felicity Passon will win the award,” said James.
Local artist and rapper Rez strongly believes that boxer Keddy Agnes will triumph.
“My bet is all on Keddy and I know he can win as he deserves it, but for the ladies I do not know as I have not followed them closely,” said the local rapper.
Franchesca Melanie hopes that Keddy Agnes wins the award as he has shown his qualities and his achievements, while for women, she is rooting for Natasha Chetty.
“I have not really followed them closely but through social media I have seen their names frequently due to their achievements and my guess is on those two,” said Melanie.
Christopher Louis also thinks that pugilist Keddy Agnes deserves the title.
“Keddy I can say has lifted up our flag for quite some time, and recently with his performance at the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG), I think he can win,” said Louis.
Bione Mousbe assumes that Keddy Agnes will be crowned Sportsman of the Year 2023.
“He has performed very well at the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) and other international competitions, so I believe he can win. For the ladies, it is Natasha Chetty who has shown great charisma abroad also with her new records,” said Mousbe.
