ISS embraces community spirit through volunteer initiative at Foyer de la Providence orphanage |28 February 2024
In a heartwarming display of community engagement and commitment to its core values, International School Seychelles (ISS) organised a meaningful community event at Foyer de la Providence orphanage on two Saturdays – February 10 and February 24, 2024.
The event saw the active participation of ISS staff and students who dedicated their time and efforts to enhance the living spaces for the children at the orphanage.
Exemplifying the school's values of community and integrity, ISS staff and students engaged in a collective effort to paint common areas, including walls and outside spaces at Foyer de la Providence. This two-Saturday initiative not only aimed to bring a fresh and vibrant atmosphere to the orphanage but also fostered a sense of unity and compassion within the ISS community.
The school’s principal, Elodie Vallantine, expressed her pride in the school's commitment to community service, stating, “At International School Seychelles, we believe in instilling values that go beyond the classroom. Our students are not only encouraged to excel academically but also to actively contribute to the well-being of the community. The event at Foyer de la Providence reflects our dedication to nurturing compassionate and responsible global citizens.”
The success of the event was made possible in part by the generous support of Chetan Pandya, an ISS parent who facilitated the donation of the paint used for the project. Mr Pandya's commitment to community involvement and his contribution to the initiative were vital in ensuring its success.
The volunteer event, spanning two Saturdays, also served as an opportunity for ISS students to fulfill their Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering requirements. Engaging in such activities aligns with the school's broader mission of promoting holistic development and fostering a sense of responsibility among its students.
ISS remains committed to making a positive impact beyond the school gates, and events like these underline the importance of community engagement in the educational journey. The school looks forward to continuing its efforts to create a positive and lasting impact on the local community.
ISS celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2024, emphasising its position as the longest running private school in the country. In line with its motto (You are not born for yourself, but for the world), the school has planned 55 acts of giving throughout 2024, making a difference outside of the school community. This was act of giving number 6 out of 55.
