Arsu brush aside Squad X-Club to finish as group leaders
- Premium Spikers exit competition after third defeat
Local side Arsu are on the right track to upgrade their position from reigning runners-up to champions of the ongoing 28th African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Zone 7 Volleyball Club Championships taking place in Madagascar.
This follows their third victory to finish on top of their group.
Meanwhile, Premium Spikers are out of the competition after suffering their third defeat in the group stage.
Drawn in group B, Arsu won their first match 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-18) against Tranquebar Black Rangers of Mauritius on Saturday, before beating Zamfi Club de Mtezamboro of Mayotte 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-6) on Sunday.
In their third and final group match yesterday, seasoned captain Jerina Bonne put up another outstanding display against Squad X-Club of hosts Madagascar.
Arsu won the match 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, and 25-11) to finish as group leaders, and qualify for the next round.
As for premium Spikers of coach Didier Dugasse, they are out of the competition after suffering their third defeat yesterday.
Spikers, who are playing in group D, lost their first match on Saturday, 1-3 (25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 18-25) against Club Sportif Pamplemousses from Mauritius, before losing their second match 0-3 on Sunday against St Denis Olympique of Reunion.
In their third match yesterday, they were up against another Mauritian club, namely Faucon Flacq Camp-Ithier, where they lost 0-3.
The set scores were 20-25, 26-28, and 21-25.
Playing their first Zone 7 Volleyball Club Championships, local women’s league champions City Ladies are also putting a good display, having registered their second win in group D yesterday.
In their first match on Sunday, City Ladies defeated Côte Ouest of Reunion 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-14), while in their second match yesterday, captain Angelique Adeline and the gang defeated Akany Sambatra Itaosy of Madagascar, also 3-0.
The set scores were 25-14, 25-20, and 25-12.
In their last group match today they will play against Orange Club of Rodrigues.
Also making their debut at the championships are Premium Cobras Ladies who are out of the competition following their second defeat in group A yesterday, losing 0-3 (16-25, 15-25, 15-15) against Tampon Gecko of Reunion.
In their first match on Sunday, Premium Cobras Ladies lost 0-3 to Gendarmerie Nationale of Madagascar.
The set scores were 22-25, 13-25, and 8-25.
