Premium Spikers, the only male volleyball team representing Seychelles at the 28th African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Zone 7 Volleyball Club Championships taking place in Madagascar have received the support of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) in the form of first aid kits.

The kits which include essentials for their players, first aid kits with replenishments, as well as small towels, were presented to captain Ricky Vel by secretary general of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) Marie-May Esparon during a small ceremony on Thursday at the society’s headquarters at Providence.

The gift serves as a sign of appreciation for Premium Spikers who have sevenplayers who are RCSS volunteers. They are captain Ricky Vel, Jones Mangroo, Ian Furneau, Hank Panagary, Wilbert Payet, Gerry Lozaiqueand Dilan Bastienne.

It is worth noting that following the explosion at the Civil Construction Company Limited (CCCL) in Petit Paris, Cascade and the flooding and landslides that hit the northern region of Mahe in December last year, Premium Spikers joined the RCSS in its response and relief efforts, especially in distributing supplies such as bed sheets, food and toiletries.

The players involved in the noble cause said they were illustrating how sports, other than being an entertainment, can also contribute in helping the community, especially in the times of need.

During the presentation, Ms Esparon noted that alongside the volunteering and contribution in terms of donations, the RCSS intends to work with Premium Spikers, exploring opportunities to promote awareness of ethical and responsible sportsmanship in Seychelles.

At the CAVB Zone 7 Volleyball Club Championships, Seychelles is also being represented by three female clubs, namely City Ladies, Arsu and Premium Cobras Ladies.

The CAVB zone 7, features clubs from Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and Comoros who will be competing for a chance to represent the region at the African Club Championships.
