‘Voices of the Ocean’ short story competition for primary school children   |06 February 2024

The Danny Faure Foundation (DFF) has launched ‘Voices of the Ocean’, a short story competition for primary school children in Seychelles.

Designed to cultivate and empower young ocean guardians, the short story competition aims to ignite the imagination of children, encouraging them to critically reflect on the state of the ocean, its importance to humankind, the challenges that threaten its present and future state, and propose ocean solutions.

The competition is open to pupils across both state and private public schools under the following two categories:

  •         Category 1: Primary 3 and Primary 4
  •         Category 2: Primary 5 and Primary 6

The best writer, from each category, will get to go on an excursion of the marine park and all winners including the runners-up will receive gift vouchers.

With the valued support of the Ministry of Education, the Danny Faure Foundation encourages parents and guardians to have their children submit their stories to their Eco-School leaders or subject coordinators. The deadline for the submission of stories is April 30, 2024.

Winners will have the chance to tell their stories at the prize-giving ceremony scheduled for June 6, 2024.

The short story competition is the second writing competition to be launched by the DFF, following the closing of an essay writing competition that targeted students at the post-secondary level. Through such competitions, the DFF aims to tap into the powerful and critical minds of the youths of Seychelles, encouraging them to advocate for a sustainable blue planet.
