Melvin Jones Fellows - Lions Club of Seychelles is glad to have achieved a record of 30 blood donors on Praslin, on its first project on the island, on Saturday February 3, 2024.

The project was initiated to support Captain Robert Morgan, who unfortunately passed away on the same day.

The blood donation on Praslin was made possible through the collaboration of Pro Optics, a local company that provided nine willing donors.

Special appreciation goes to Elizabeth Banda, senior programme manager, for coordinating with the Ministry of Health and the MJF Lions team to ensure smooth operations between Mahé and Praslin.

The haemoglobin analysis was carried out by Eddy Kilindo, senior lab technician, and Linda Prosper, lab technician.

Lion Dr Kalpesh (MJF) provided medical check-ups for the patients, while Lion MJF Rajesh Mathur and Lion Vijay Pandya, president of Lions Club of Seychelles, sponsored snacks and drinks for the event.

The project received tremendous support from various organisations and individuals. The MJF Lions Club extended gratitude to the employees of Pro Optics, Vijay (Praslin), Lablache Halai, Sahaj Apartment, Le Duc de Praslin, Inter Islands Ferry (Pty) Limited, Hari Builders, Global Supply, and Laxman Trading for their generous blood donations and commitment to the local community.

A special mention goes to Sabine Ploszonka, a German tourist, who volunteered to donate her universal blood for the first time.

This successful project has inspired the MJF Lions Club to plan for future initiatives on Praslin and La Digue when there is a shortage of blood on Mahé but a need for it at the Ministry of Health.

MJF Club president Gopi Dubasia expressed heartfelt gratitude to the entire team of club members, donors, volunteers, supporters and the Ministry of Health for their contributions to the project's success.

According to the president of MJF club, by donating blood, you possess the power to make a life-saving impact. Your selfless act of donating blood can play a crucial role in saving the lives of individuals in need, whether they are undergoing medical procedures, recovering from accidents, or battling life-threatening conditions.

Gopi Dubasia said: “Each donation holds the potential to serve as a lifeline for someone during their most critical moments. Your generosity has the ability to bring hope, comfort, and relief to patients and their families, providing them with the assurance that there are individuals like yourself who are willing to give the invaluable gift of life. Together, we can make a meaningful difference and contribute to creating a healthier and more compassionate world through the simple act of donating blood!”
