Mr Lucas began by detailing the process of planning and preparation, including the creation of the Delimitation Committee. This committee was tasked with conducting extensive research into the universal standards used in boundary delimitation and in-depth consultations with citizens and all related stakeholders into the cultural and socio-economic contexts of each electoral district.
Mr Lucas remarked that the involvement of district administrators across the country was very high and there was a positive degree of cooperation in the numerous site visits and discussions that took place.
For her part, Chief Electoral Officer, Mrs Amesbury, shared that the committee was an intensely dedicated team who concentrated their efforts on ensuring best practices were used throughout the creation of the report and that engagement with vital stakeholders was a top priority.
Speaker Mancienne said public understanding of issues such as electoral boundary delimitation is essential and commended the dedication of the committee. The Speaker also noted that the Electoral Commission has a Constitutional responsibility to ensure that this process is conducted in a transparent and comprehensible way.
