Youth offender facility set for opening as officer in charge selected

Inspector Lewis, Sergeant Rose and Ms Nourrice

As the prison service readies to open SPS Amitie Youth Offender Facility, it is announced that Inspector Stephanie Lewis will be the facility’s first officer in charge and will be supported by Sergeant Vicky Rose.

The final selection comes after a series of interviews with interested persons from various backgrounds who responded and were interviewed.  This included staff from the prison service.

“We were pleased at the response and those interested applicants who stepped forward for the senior post.  They were all excellent candidates but only one could be selected after shortlisting,” said Raymond St Ange, Commissioner of Prison.

Inspector Lewis, who previously ably served with the Seychelles Police Force for the past 12 plus years and until recently held senior responsibility as an inspector of police, hails from Praslin.

Commenting on her new role, this proud mother of two said, “I am excited about the change of career and am thankful for the experiences gained from the police. I will still be in the law enforcement community however and I am confident on the way forward and the work that I am about to deliver at the youth facility, for the prison service, and for the country.”

Sergeant Vicky Rose, mother of one, who has for the past ten years served with determination in a demanding area of work at SPS Montagne Posée, said, “I appreciate the confidence placed in me and the opportunity to be part of management for this new and very important facility that will enhance what the Seychelles Prison Service has as management response for those juveniles who may be convicted by court. I am confident that I will be able to support Inspector Lewis and the vision and mission of the service.”

SPS Amitie will be under the responsibility of the Psychosocial Unit of the prison service, which is headed by Elsa Nourrice who is as well the principal probation officer.

The commissioning of the youth offender facility will take place in due course.
