Mahé Design and Build workers’ salaries paid |04 January 2024

The group of migrant workers employed by construction company Mahé Design and Build who converged to the Employment department on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 alleging non-payment of their salaries over a couple of months, have now received outstanding payment from August to October 2023.

The company has submitted proof to the Employment department of the amount paid and is this week finalising outstanding salary for November 2023.

According to Employment Act, the last date for payment of salary for December 2023 is January 5, 2024, after which Enforcement Officers from the Department will perform a follow-up to ensure compliance.

The Employment department is in the process of assessing documents received from the company to determine whether or not there has been any breach of the law.

Meanwhile, the group of migrant workers who downed tools resumed duty on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Employers are reminded of their responsibility to pay their workers on time, according to law, to avoid litigations.

Workers also have a duty to report labour disputes early for a quicker and amicable settlement.
