Finland: MATKA Nordic Travel Fair

The Tourism Seychelles team successfully promoted Seychelles as the preferred holiday destination for Nordic travellers at the MATKA Nordic Travel Fair in Helsinki, Finland. Despite a two-year hiatus, Seychelles aims to reinforce its presence in the minds of consumers, inspiring them to explore the charms of the Seychelles Islands.

 

France: Salon Tourissima Consumer Fair

Participating in the Salon Tourissima Consumer Fair in Lille, France, Seychelles engaged potential visitors interested in adventurous holidays and outdoor activities. With France being one of Seychelles' top three source markets, the fair served as a strategic initiative to maintain destination momentum and attract potential holidaymakers for the new year.

 

France: IFTM Top Resa Participation

Seychelles showcased its tourism offerings at the 45th edition of IFTM Top Resa in France. Led by Minister Sylvestre Radegonde and Tourism Seychelles representatives, the delegation engaged with industry professionals, promoting Seychelles' attractions and fostering collaborations. France, a key market for Seychelles, showed promising growth in French visitor arrivals in 2023.

 

Belgium: Salon des Vacances

Seychelles showcased its remarkable allure at the prestigious Salon des Vacances in Belgium, making a resounding impact on travel enthusiasts attending this prominent consumer fair. The event's primary objective was to draw visitors to Seychelles, and the engagement proved particularly promising for the Belgium market. In the year 2023, the Belgium market has already contributed significantly to Seychelles' tourism landscape, bringing in a total of 4,463 passengers. This marks a noteworthy increase of 312 visitors compared to the total arrivals from the same market in 2022.

 

Germany: ITB Berlin

Seychelles showcased its endless summer appeal at ITB Berlin, engaging with German partners to strengthen its position in the German market, the third-best source market for Seychelles. Minister Sylvestre Radegonde and director general Bernadette Willemin led the Seychelles delegation, emphasising Seychelles as a preferred destination.

 

Italy: Exclusive event in Monteriggioni

Tourism Seychelles collaborated with I GrandiViaggi and Constance hotels to organise an exclusive event in Monteriggioni, Italy, targeting travel agents to boost summer bookings. The event aligned with Seychelles' strategy to promote the archipelago through collaborations with tour operators, hoteliers, and airlines.

 

Sicily, Italy: Travelexpo

Seychelles representatives participated in Travelexpo, a significant tourism event in Sicily, Italy, strengthening Seychelles' presence in the Italian market. The event provided an ideal platform to connect with local trade partners and enhance visibility in the important Sicilian market.

 

Italy: TTG Travel Experience participation

Tourism Seychelles actively participated in the 60th edition of TTG Travel Experience, Italy's major travel trade fair held in Rimini from October 11-13, 2023. The delegation, led by Bernadette Willemin, director general for destination marketing, strengthened relationships with Italian tour operators, travel agencies, and the media. The fair focused on redefining tourism with an emphasis on sustainability and contemporary challenges, contributing to Seychelles' awareness and charm in the Italian market.

 

UK: World Travel Market London 2023 participation

Tourism Seychelles participated in the 43rd edition of the World Travel Market (WTM) London at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre from November 6-8, 2023. Led by Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, the delegation aimed at attracting global travellers, enhance market presence, strengthen trade partnerships, and establish new alliances. The focus was on engaging with potential customers and partners, marking another successful year for Seychelles on the international tourism stage.

 

India: OTM and SATTE Travel Trade Shows

Tourism Seychelles actively participated in two major Indian travel trade shows, OTM and SATTE, aiming to strengthen its position in India—a vital source market. The delegation showcased Seychelles' diverse offerings, emphasising India's importance and expressing the intention to invest more in the market through various platforms, trade shows, and media relations. Seychelles aims to tap into the growing interest in travel among India's young population and continues to explore collaborations with the entertainment industry to enhance visibility and popularity in the Indian market.

Tourism Seychelles and Edelweiss Air collaborated to enhance Seychelles' visibility in the Swiss market through a promotional event in Zurich. The event aimed to inform travel trade and media partners about the destination's features and underscore the accessibility provided by Edelweiss Air, the only airline with direct flights to Seychelles from Zurich.

 

Italy: Luxury events and recognition

In collaboration with Labtravel and Il Tempo Ritrovato, Tourism Seychelles organised two events in Milan and Tuscany targeting couples interested in luxury holidays. Italy, among the top five markets for Seychelles, saw a 63% increase in visitor arrivals in 2023. The country received recognition as the "Best Green Destination in the World" from Weekend Premium magazine, acknowledging Seychelles' sustainability efforts in green tourism.

 

Italy: Seychelles day workshop and recognition

Tourism Seychelles organised a Seychelles day workshop in Rome on September 18, engaging with Italian tour operators, airlines, and hoteliers to strengthen connections and brand visibility. The workshop aimed to enhance partnerships within the industry, contributing to Seychelles' growth in the Italian market, which remains significant for the archipelago. Additionally, Seychelles received recognition as the ‘Indian Ocean’s Best Spa Destination 2023’ in the World Spa Awards, highlighting its outstanding contributions to the spa and wellness industry.

 

Sri Lanka: Workshop for visibility enhancement

Tourism Seychelles successfully engaged with over 50 Sri Lankan tourism trade partners in a workshop held on October 5, 2023, at the Movenpick Hotel in Colombo. The event aimed to enhance Seychelles' visibility in the Sri Lankan market, featuring presentations, networking opportunities, a Creole atmosphere, and a raffle draw. The positive engagement and interest among Sri Lankan travel agents contribute to Seychelles' growth in the region.

Tourism Seychelles and Air Seychelles organised the first-ever destination workshops in Kazakhstan, leveraging newly introduced direct flights between Almaty and Seychelles. The workshops aimed to provide insights into the market's specifics, language barriers, and traveller expectations, preparing for the anticipated increase in tourists from Kazakhstan.

 

UAE: Press event in Abu Dhabi

Tourism Seychelles Middle East Office, in collaboration with Lulu Travel Corporation, organised a press event in Abu Dhabi to enhance market presence. The event featured engagements with media professionals, ribbon-cutting ceremony, presentations, and immersive experiences, aiming to elevate Seychelles' visibility in Abu Dhabi.

 

Saudi Arabia: Strengthening industry bonds

Tourism Seychelles successfully organised a travel agent networking dinner in Jeddah on November 20, 2023. Attended by ten prominent travel agents, the event aimed to strengthen relationships, understand travel booking trends, and foster collaboration within the industry. Ahmed Fathallah, representing Tourism Seychelles in the Middle East, expressed satisfaction with the event's outcome, emphasising its role in building stronger relationships and gathering insights for future initiatives in the region. Plans for Familiarization Trips (FamTrips) are underway to further promote Seychelles as a preferred travel destination.

 

Saudi Arabia (Riyadh): Continued momentum

Tourism Seychelles Middle East Dubai Office continued its momentum in strengthening ties with the regional travel industry by hosting a Travel Agent Networking Dinner in Riyadh, KSA, on December 12, 2023. Attended by 22 respected travel agents, the event witnessed increased interest in travel to Seychelles, with a positive uptick in bookings from Riyadh. Discussions on joint promotional activities and initiatives for 2024 opened avenues for collaboration between Tourism Seychelles and travel agents, with Ahmed Fathallah expressing delight with the outcome and looking forward to future collaborations.

 

Réunion and Mauritius: Marketing visit and strengthening ties

Tourism Seychelles, led by MrsWillemin, successfully concluded a marketing visit to Réunion from December 6-10. The mission included a media tour, press interviews, and meetings with industry partners, focusing on fostering connections and sharing updates about Seychelles as a premier tourist destination. Mrs Willemin engaged with prominent media outlets, reinforced collaboration with Air Austral, and announced upcoming events in 2024. The visit strengthened ties with Réunion’s media, travel industry, and other stakeholders.

Additionally, in Mauritius, Tourism Seychelles and Air Seychelles participated in the "Salon du Prêt-à-Partir" event, offering discounts and engaging with potential tourists to highlight Seychelles as a versatile and budget-friendly island holiday destination.

 

Seychelles' repositioning in Japan and China

Reviving its connection in Japan and China, Tourism Seychelles actively engaged in promotional activitiesto boost its global tourism presence. In Japan, the focus was on the Tourism Expo Japan 2023 in Osaka, where Seychelles participated in B2B and B2C engagements, emphasising one-to-one meetings with travel agencies and showcasing its diverse offerings. Additionally, efforts were directed towards marine diving promotion in Tokyo and trade workshops to revive connections following the lifting of Covid-related border restrictions.

 

Japan: Expo Focus on B2B and B2C engagements

Tourism Seychelles participated in the Tourism Expo Japan 2023 (TEJ) in Osaka, focusing on both B2B and B2C engagements. The expo provided opportunities for one-to-one meetings with travel agencies, emphasising lead generation and market presence. The delegation aimed to showcase Seychelles' diverse offerings, promote sustainable tourism practices, and strengthen relationships with Japanese travel partners.

 

Japan: Marine diving fair in Tokyo

Tourism Seychelles, in collaboration with the Seychelles Honorary Consul in Tokyo, participated in the Marine Diving Fair in Tokyo to showcase Seychelles as a premier diving destination. The event targeted trade professionals and consumers, emphasizing sustainable diving practices and marine conservation efforts.

 

Japan: Reviving connections and growth

In response to Japan's lifted Covid-related border restrictions, Tourism Seychelles organised trade workshops in Tokyo and Osaka on June 12 and 14, 2023. Collaborating with Constance Ephelia and Constance Lemuria, the workshops aimed to revive the Japanese market, emphasizing Seychelles' luxurious offerings, cultural experiences, eco-tourism, island

 

China: Sales call meetings and trade workshops

Tourism Seychelles conducted major sales call meetings in China, collaborating with Raffles and Four Seasons. The team aimed to make a strong impact in the Chinese market, gaining insights into evolving travel trends. Seychelles also initiated trade workshops in key Chinese cities to rekindle the Chinese market.

 

China: Consumer promotion and photography exhibition

Tourism Seychelles, in partnership with Constance Ephelia, Constance Lemuria, Limi Travel, and HUAWEI, initiated a summer consumer promotion with "The Multiple Worlds of the Islands" photo exhibition in Nanning city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Southern China. The exhibition showcased Seychelles' landscapes using HUAWEI P60 series photos, aiming to captivate photographers and inspire travel. The successful exhibition reached both on-site and online audiences, contributing to Seychelles' visibility in China.

 

China: Collaboration in tourism and health education hopping adventures, and domestic cruises. These workshops signify a significant step in re-establishing connections and fostering growth in the Japanese market.

A Seychelles delegation, led by tourism principal secretary Sherin Francis, visited Zhoushan Tourism and Health College in China to explore cooperation opportunities in tourism and health education. Discussions focused on establishing collaboration frameworks, promoting educational exchanges, and strengthening ties in tourism and health. The collaboration aims to contribute to the growth of the tourism sector in Seychelles and China while fostering academic cooperation and cultural understanding.

 

China: Island tourism conference and marketing efforts

At the International Island Tourism Conference in Zhoushan, Seychelles' commitment to tourism and strengthening its relationship with China was highlighted in exclusive interviews. The interviews emphasised Seychelles' unique allure, natural beauty, pristine beaches, and rich cultural heritage. The aim is to attract more Chinese tourists, fostering mutual collaboration and growth in island tourism.

Tourism Seychelles participated in the Travel & Adventure Show 2023 in New York, USA, intensifying marketing efforts post-Covid-19 to increase arrivals from North America. The Seychelles team emphasised the importance of destination awareness and visibility in growing Seychelles' market share in North America, which is currently among the top 10 best-performing markets for Seychelles.

 

USA: Beneath the sea exhibition and ASTA trade show

Tourism Seychelles had a notable presence at two major events in the USA – the Beneath the Sea Exhibition focused on scuba and dive travel, highlighting Seychelles' underwater world. At the ASTA Trade Show, Seychelles engaged with travel professionals to strengthen ties with the North American travel trade.

 

USA Marketing activities and collaboration

Tourism Seychelles, in collaboration with Blue Safari Seychelles, Limi Travel, and HUAWEI, conducted successful marketing activities in the United States. The series of events aimed to promote Seychelles as a premier holiday destination, showcasing luxury offerings and introducing new niches to the North American market.

 

USA: Diving exhibition to increase presence

Tourism Seychelles participated in the DEMA Diving Exhibition, a North American Scuba and Dive Travel Show held in New Orleans from November 14-17. The Seychelles delegation aimed to promote the destination's diverse tourism attributes, including birding, snorkeling, sailing, and diving. This participation is part of Tourism Seychelles' strategy to increase its presence and market share in North America.

  • Cultural experience- Creole rendezvous launch

In July, Seychelles introduced the 'Creole Rendezvous' cultural brand, a vibrant tribute to the nation's natural beauty, rich diversity, and lively Creole culture. Born out of the 'Experience Seychelles' campaign and recognised by the United Nations' World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), this initiative, spearheaded by Sherin Francis, principal secretary for Tourism, aims to provide an immersive exploration and profound appreciation of Seychellois cultural heritage. The launch event, attended by an illustrious crowd, showcased various activities such as traditional live cooking, the enchanting 'Kanmtole' dance, and nostalgic Seychellois childhood games, offering visitors an engaging journey through the essence of Seychelles.

The 'Creole Rendezvous' experience promises to be a captivating cultural immersion. From knitting with local grandmothers to dancing to the melodious beats of Creole music and savouring the flavours of Seychellois cuisine, each activity weaves a narrative of the past, celebrates the present, and creates cherished memories for the future. This cultural brand not only shines a spotlight on Seychelles' rich traditions but also extends a warm invitation to the world, welcoming everyone to embrace the magic of its Creole culture and become part of the nation's cultural tapestry.

 

  • Sustainable Seychelles: Launch

In a resounding affirmation of its dedication to sustainability, the tourism department launched the ‘Sustainable Seychelles Brand’ campaign on October 25, 2023 at the Botanical Garden. Spearheaded by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Sylvestre Radegonde, the initiative aims to provide a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable practices across the tourism industry and beyond. Emphasising unity and shared responsibility, the brand endeavours to ensure Seychelles remains an environmentally conscious destination through cooperation and active engagement. The campaign, supported by pillars such as Sensitisation and Awareness, Education and Training, and Service Monitoring and Awards, includes the Sustainable Seychelles Recognition and Certification, formerly known as the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL).

Bernadette Willemin, director general for destination marketing, unveiled the Sustainable Seychelles Brand Logo and launch video, visually capturing the essence of sustainability in Seychelles. The ceremony recognised pioneering entities like Constance Ephelia Resort and Kempinski Seychelles Resort for embracing sustainability since 2012. Partners holding valid certification programmes were awarded Sustainable Seychelles certificates, reaffirming their commitment to sustainable practices.

The event concluded with a vibrant performance by Ryan Louise and Cresshiela Ladouceur, bringing the Sustainable Seychelles brand's anthem to life and leaving attendees inspired. Concurrently, Seychelles has taken a significant step toward promoting sustainability in its tourism sector by joining the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), a global network dedicated to advancing sustainable tourism practices worldwide. This move underscores Seychelles' commitment to learning from and sharing sustainable practices with other nations, contributing to the collective effort for a more sustainable future in the tourism industry. Sherin Francis, principal secretary for tourism, emphasised that the membership is not just for Seychelles but signifies an ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism, aligning with the recent introduction of the Sustainable Seychelles brand.

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourist Label (SSTL), operational for the past decade, forms the basis of the new local brand, Sustainable Seychelles. This initiative aims to elevate sustainability in Seychelles by providing a roadmap for implementing and advancing sustainable practices in the travel and tourism sector and related industries. With a focus on collaboration and shared responsibility, the brand seeks to ensure Seychelles remains a consistently clean and environmentally conscientious travel destination.

Joining the GSTC enables Seychelles to strengthen its dedication to sustainable tourism and gain access to a global network of resources and expertise, supporting the destination in achieving its sustainability goals. Randy Durband, CEO of GSTC, expressed enthusiasm for Seychelles' membership, highlighting the potential for tourism to be a positive force for transformation and global understanding when approached with a vision of sustainability.

 

  • Classification: Launch

Seychelles Tourism is set to enhance its standards with the launch of the National Classification Programme, introduced by MrsFrancis. This initiative, in development since 2016, aims to elevate industry standards, enhance professionalism, and bolster the destination’s market value. Scheduled to take effect from September 2023, the programme will adopt a uniform grading system in accordance with the new 'Tourism Development Standard Regulations.' It encompasses two categories: Star Grading, mandatory for hotels of 51 rooms and more, and Seychelles Secret, voluntary for hotels with 50 rooms to 16 rooms, and all self-catering and guest houses. The classification will be valid for two years, and establishments will be subject to monitoring visits to ensure ongoing adherence to standards.

Mrs Francis emphasised the programme's significance for Seychelles' competitiveness in the global tourism landscape, emphasising the critical role that the standard of facilities and services plays in attracting visitors. Seychelles Secret brand will have three levels of awards –Gold, Silver, and Bronze – based on facilities and services offered. The tourism department will conduct regular assessments during the two-year term, and establishments failing to meet standards may face suspension or cancellation of awards, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining high-quality tourism offerings. The industry planning and development team will initiate preparations and engagement with partners for the program's implementation starting in September 2023.

The second LospitaliteLafyerteSeselService Excellence Awards, hosted at Constance Ephelia Seychelles, marked a momentous celebration of exemplary service providers in Seychelles' thriving tourism industry. Attended by President Wavel Ramkalawan and esteemed guests, the event recognised businesses and individuals for their exceptional hospitality. Noteworthy winners, such as Constance Ephelia and Mango House Seychelles, received intricately handcrafted trophies symbolising excellence in passion, dedication, and heartfelt service. Special mentions were reserved for Villa Bella, recipient of the Public's Choice Award, and Treasure Villa, acknowledged for its meticulous attention to detail. With over 160 registered businesses, the awards ceremony underscores Seychelles' unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in its tourism sector, setting high standards for service delivery, and further elevating the archipelago's global reputation.

Principal secretary for tourism Sherin Francis expressed satisfaction with the event's turnout and emphasised the ongoing mission of the LospitaliteLafyerteSesel programme to improve service delivery continually. The top three finishers in various categories, spanning hotels, tour guides, and individual employees, were recognised for their outstanding contributions, reflecting the programme's success in promoting excellence and continuous improvement within Seychelles' vibrant tourism landscape.

In a noteworthy accomplishment for the LospitaliteLafyerteSesel programme this year, the inaugural LospitaliteTourism Club Award took place on September 29 at the UniSey auditorium in Anse Royale. This event offered us the chance to applaud the Lospitalite Tourism Clubs for their unwavering dedication and hard work throughout the year. The evaluation of the clubs encompassed a variety of well-organised competitions, spanning table setting, culinary challenges, tour guiding, project assessments, and quizzes. These competitions were intricately designed to assess students' knowledge and proficiency across the diverse spectrum of the tourism and hospitality industry.

The Lospitalite Tourism Club Award plays a crucial role in the holistic growth and development of students aspiring to enter the realms of tourism and hospitality. It not only fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among participants but also nurtures a spirit of continuous improvement and learning.

In addition to benefiting aspiring professionals, this collaborative project has proven to be instrumental for secondary school teachers instructing hospitality. The initiative has served as a valuable resource, enhancing their expertise in the subject and contributing to the overall enrichment of educational practices.

 

  • Partnership with UNWTO to pioneer innovative human resource development strategy

 The tourism department proudly announced a ground-breaking collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) to cultivate a robust tourism human resource development strategy for the country. This strategic initiative marks a significant milestone in elevating Seychelles' position as a leading global tourism destination.

Under the terms of the signed contract, the tourism department has engaged the expertise of a seasoned consultant, who has visited the destination on a working mission. The consultant's mission will includespearheading the development of a comprehensive human resource development strategy tailored to the unique needs of Seychelles' burgeoning tourism sector.

During the working mission, the consultant has engaged with a spectrum of key stakeholders, both from the public and private sectors. These collaborative sessions have been instrumental in gathering invaluable insights and data essential for the formulation of the human resource development strategy. The inclusivity of these consultations ensures that the strategy aligns with the diverse needs and aspirations of Seychelles' tourism industry.

 

  • Empowering small tourism businesses through comprehensive training programmes

In a dedicated effort to bolster the skills and knowledge of small tourism businesses, the tourism department has successfully organised a series of targeted training sessions. These initiatives aim to elevate the service standards and operational proficiency of businesses within Seychelles' vibrant tourism sector.

The comprehensive training programmes cover a spectrum of essential topics, ensuring a well-rounded enhancement of skills for participants. The topics included: Table setting and service, Welcome drinks and cold towels preparation, Wine knowledge and Service and Housekeeping and Food Safety

These specialised sessions were designed to equip small tourism businesses with the necessary tools to enhance the overall quality of their services and operations.In addition to the technical skill development, the tourism department extended its commitment to excellence by offering customer care training to both small tourism businesses and entrepreneurs. The collective impact of these training initiatives resulted in over 600 individuals being trained this year. This accomplishment highlights the department's dedication to fostering a service-oriented culture and ensuring a positive experience for visitors to Seychelles.

The Seychelles Mega FAM Trip, orchestrated by Tourism Seychelles, attracted 65 travel agencies and press partners from 20 nationalities worldwide. The four-day event showcased Seychelles' beauty and culture, featuring experiential tours, cultural soirees, and networking opportunities.

Highlights included visits to luxury accommodations, a cultural immersion in Victoria, and a captivating cultural soirée at Cap Lazare nature reserve. The event concluded with high praise from Mrs Willemin, emphasising the success in promoting Seychelles as a top tourist destination.

The trip also included an exclusive preview of the upcoming Wardorf Astoria on Platte Island. The support of local partners and sponsors, including Constance Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Seychelles, and Air Seychelles, contributed to the event's success, positioning Seychelles as a premier tourist destination with unparalleled beauty and warm hospitality.

The recognition reinforces Seychelles' commitment to tourism excellence and sustainable practices. Additionally, Air Seychelles, the national airline, secured two titles: ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline – Economy Class 2023’ and ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline Brand 2023’. Seychelles expresses gratitude for the support and vows to continue providing exceptional and eco-friendly tourism experiences.

Seychelles has once again secured a prominent position in the World’s 50 Best Beaches list, with Anse Source D’Argent on La Digue island claiming the second spot and Anse Lazio on Praslin island ranking 29th. The prestigious list, based on criteria such as natural beauty, remoteness, swimability, sunshine days, and average temperature, is compiled with votes from over 750 travel influencers and professionals. The recognition reaffirms Seychelles' allure as a top beach destination, with Anse Source D’Argent's golden sands, turquoise waters, and iconic granite boulders standing out as particularly captivating. Anse Lazio's pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters also contributed to Seychelles' continued prominence on the global beach scene.

Seychelles has been acknowledged in the 2023 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards, securing a spot among the top ‘25 Favourite Islands in the World of 2023’ with an impressive reader score of 91.47. The prestigious awards recognise outstanding travel experiences and destinations, with Seychelles competing against global island destinations like Zanzibar, Phuket, Santorini, and the Maldives. The recognition is particularly noteworthy as Seychelles has received this award five consecutive times, showcasing its consistent appeal. David Germain, director for Africa and the Americas for Tourism Seychelles, expressed pride in this achievement, emphasising Seychelles' distinction as a world-class island destination. With its breathtaking beaches, clear turquoise waters, lush landscapes, and exquisite accommodations, Seychelles provides a tranquil and picturesque setting for romantic escapes.

Seychelles stands out with a range of world-class accommodations, from private villas to premium resorts, offering unparalleled solitude and indulgence. Tailored packages and services, such as candlelit beach dinners, couples' massages, and romantic excursions, enhance the romantic experience. Mrs Willeminexpressed gratitude for the award, acknowledging the unwavering commitment of partners in delivering exceptional service and describing Seychelles as ‘Truly Another World’.

In addition to its recognition as the world's most romantic destination, Seychelles' national airline, Air Seychelles, received the esteemed title of the World's Leading Airline to the Indian Ocean 2023. Seychelles and Colombo have embarked on a historic collaboration to redefine travel experiences, initiated by Air Seychelles' inaugural flight to Bandaranaike International Airport on June 20.

Esteemed officials, including Mrs Francis and Mrs Willemin, marked the occasion, highlighting the strategic move to unlock new markets through the Colombo route. The partnership not only facilitates access to previously challenging markets but also enables Seychelles to learn from Sri Lanka’s best practices for the mutual benefit of both nations.

A trade event on June 21 further showcased the possibilities of this connection, emphasising the potential for transformative impacts on both tourism industries. The collaborative efforts were affirmed during a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister for Tourism,Harin Fernando, solidifying the bond between Seychelles and Sri Lanka and setting the stage for unparalleled travel adventures.

Seychelles Tourism is also experiencing a boost as multiple airlines resume services, setting a positive tone for the end of 2023. Turkish Airlines, with three direct flights per week connecting Seychelles to Istanbul, recently landed with 277 passengers.

Preceding this, Edelweiss and Condor touched down on September 30 and October 1, 2023, respectively. In October, Aeroflot increased its frequency to Seychelles, and Emirates resumed operations with two daily flights.

Alongside national carrier, Air Seychelles, the country is well-connected by international airlines, including Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Air Austral, and Kenya Airways. The Seychelles National Bureau of Statistics reported 8,167 tourist arrivals during week 43 of 2023, contributing to a year-to-date increase of 4% compared to the previous year.

Regular meetings with key players such as hoteliers, taxi operators, and representatives from the diving associations showcase a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of the industry. By maintaining an open line of communication with these stakeholders, the minister not only stays abreast of the challenges faced by different sectors but also actively seeks input and feedback to inform strategic decision-making.

Beyond marketing, it has evolved into a collaborative platform for key figures in the tourism sector. The objectives encompass presenting the department's strategic accomplishments and performance report from the previous year, emphasizing achievements and milestones.

Furthermore, the meeting provided a comprehensive report on the current year's performance, offering insightful updates on progress to date and outlining the vision for the remainder of the year. An in-depth update on the medium-term 'Seychelles Tourism Narrative' was presented, detailing comprehensive plans for the future of the tourism industry.

Distinguished speakers, including Minister Sylvestre Radegonde, Mrs Francis, Mrs Willemin, director general for destination planningPaul Lebon, director of Seychelles Tourism Academy Terence Max, and director general for human resources and administration Jenifer Sinon, contributed to the event.

Minister Radegonde, convened with the new founding committee of the Seychelles Small Hotels and Establishments Association (SSHEA) to address the growth and sustainability of small accommodation providers in Seychelles. The meeting, attended by key figures such as Mrs Francis and Mrs Willemin, focused on understanding the challenges faced by small establishments, including high operational costs and low occupancy rates. Discussions also touched upon broader issues affecting the country, such as tourism number caps, flight limitations due to climate change, and the proposed tourism environmental sustainability levy.

Representing SSHEA, Peter Sinon expressed appreciation for the endorsement and support from the tourism department. The committee expressed interest in active participation in events organised by the tourism department and emphasised their commitment to enhancing digital marketing strategies and visibility for small hotels. The collaborative efforts between the SSHEA and the tourism department aim to ensure the continued success and meaningful contribution of small hotels and establishments to Seychelles' dynamic tourism industry.
