SYA receives R100,000 worth of sponsorship |22 December 2023
The Seychelles Yachting Association has received sponsorship worth R100,000 from two prominent sponsors.
Nouvobanq, represented by its chief executive (CEO) Christophe Edmond, has sponsored the Seychelles Yachting Association (SYA) a sum of R70,000.
The remaining R30,000 has come from Hunt, Deltel & Co Ltd. It was Chantal Poonoosamy, the communication and admin executive at Hunt, Deltel & Co Ltd, who handed over the cheque to Lucy Athanasius, the vice-chairperson of SYA.
The presentation ceremony took place early this week at the Olympic House, Roche Caïman.
In attendance were Alain Alcindor, secretary general of the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth games Association (Socga) and Optimist representative on the STA executive committee, as well as SYA treasurer Chantal Hoffman and dinghy representative Kenny Constance.
The SYA has been under the leadership of Michel Bristol since November 2021 when he replaced Mr Alcindor as chairman. Mr Alcindor did not stand for re-election after having spent more than 31 years as the SYA chairman.
Mr Bristol was voted into office along with other executive committee members during the SYA annual general meeting held on Saturday November 6, 2021.
The executive committee comprises 11 members as opposed to the previous 8, thus allowing for representation of all sailing classes.
The new SYA executive committee members were elected by a unanimous vote each with Michel Bristol elected as the new chairman, Lucy Athanasius as vice-chair, Hebetty Alcindor, Chantal Hoffman and Rodney Govinden retained their positions as secretary, treasurer and dinghy representative and Kenny Constance as ordinary members respectively.
Alain Alcindor is the Optimist representative, Jean-Marc Gardette windsurfing representative and Alex Simon kitesurfing representative, and the two ordinary members elected are Patrick André and Roy Govinden.
The committee will hold office for four years as per the SYA constitution 2021.
