As we near the festive season, the Seychelles Police has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety by launching the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign. The aim is to maintain an ideal environment for pedestrians and motorists across the country.
The head of traffic, ASP Georcelin Doude, met with the press at the Central Police Station in Victoria yesterday morning to outline the police’ plans for the festive season.
He explained that, due to two major incidents in early December, the campaign launch was delayed this year.
“The main goal of the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign is to reduce the offences from drivers mainly those who drink in excess. Another measure, which will be introduced as of tonight, is breathalysers. We recently received a donation of breathalysers and this will definitely enhance enforcement measures during this festive period.”
Compared to previous years, ASP Doude has said there was relatively a low number of road accidents reported at present and expressed the hope that this trend would continue.
The police said it will clamp down on drivers who speed. “I would like to stress on younger drivers who sometimes like to speed and overtake unnecessarily leading to accidents, to drive slowly and designate a driver if they consume alcohol. The laws will be applicable at all times and if someone is caught drinking and driving or drunk, he will be sanctioned,” stressed ASP Doude.
The police has also called on everyone to take personal responsibility, whether on the streets, at parties or at the beach.
The police extends warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
