ISS donates books to SAREP in support of national reading project |15 December 2023

In a heartwarming ceremony held yesterday, the International School Seychelles (ISS) proudly donated a collection of books to the Seychelles Association of Retired Educational Professionals (SAREP).

The donation is a response to SAREP's request for support for its national reading project, ‘Sesel Lir Avek Mwan’.

SAREP, recognising the importance of fostering a love for reading among the youth, initiated the ‘Sesel Lir Avek Mwan’ project to encourage a culture of literacy in Seychelles.

The project aims to provide access to quality reading materials, particularly for younger children, promoting lifelong learning and a passion for literature.

ISS, in collaboration with parents and the local community, successfully organised a book drive to contribute to SAREP’s noble cause. The donated books, specifically selected for younger readers, will play a crucial role in enriching the reading experience of children involved in the project.

“We are delighted to support SAREP's national reading project, ‘Sesel Lir Avek Mwan’, by contributing to its book drive. Education is a cornerstone of our society, and we believe that nurturing a love for reading from an early age is key to building a brighter future for Seychelles,” said Elodie Vallantine, ISS Principal.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from both ISS and SAREP, as well as primary pupils. The event celebrated the collective effort to promote literacy and the spirit of giving within the community.

ISS extends its sincere gratitude to all the parents and community members who participated in the book drive, recognising their invaluable contribution to supporting education and literacy initiatives in Seychelles.
