Fire partially destroys one of four units in a house in Bel Ombre |13 December 2023

Fire partially affected one unit in a four-unit house in Bel Ombre yesterday afternoon and one person was treated for shock at the Seychelles Hospital.

According to the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA), the fire in the vicinity of St Roch church was reported at 2pm.

It immediately deployed two fire tenders and a water bowser from Victoria Fire Station to attend to the scene.

In a communique the SFRSA said it took around 10 minutes to reach the scene.

“Upon arrival we noticed a lot of smoke coming from the building and our firefighters acted quickly to locate the exact location of the fire and get the fire under control so as to prevent it from spreading to other units.”

It took around five minutes to put the fire under control and around 30 minutes to completely extinguish it, read the statement.

According to SFRSA, their team’s quick response ensured they managed to save the building, which used to be a tourism establishment called ‘Choice Villa’.

The agency, along with the police, have opened an investigation into the incident.
