Football: Legend Foundation – Ange Dubignon Charity Match |09 December 2023
Legendary goalkeeper Ange Dubignon receives support of Legend Foundation
Well-known goalkeeper Ange Dubignon, AKA ‘Ti Ange’ has received a cheque from the Legend Foundation as a contribution towards his medical expenses, following a charity match played on Sunday November 26 at Stad Popiler.
Other than a tribute to the seasoned goalie, the charity match was a testament to the enduring support and admiration he has garnered throughout his football career, while it was the perfect opportunity for fans and supporters to come together and show their appreciation for Dubignon while contributing to a noble cause.
It was Legend Foundation member Alain Jean who presented ‘Ti Ange’ with the cheque worth R25,000, in the presence chairman Don Anacoura, member Jude Woodcock, as well as family members of the legendary goalkeeper, during a small ceremony held recently at Stad Popiler.
‘Ti Ange’ is the third former player to receive the support of the foundation, following substantial monetary contribution made towards the health expenses of former St Louis and Seychelles international player Vincent ‘Tolor’ Dorasamy, ex-Plaisance and Seychelles no-nonsense central defender and referee Gonzague Boniface.
The former goalie thanked the foundation for the initiative, and also all the players who were involved in making the event and cause a reality.
He furthermore thanked the spectators who came down and showed their support, as well as his family members, who he said have always been there for him.
Legend Foundation chairman Anacoura said they are satisfied with the activities hosted for this year, while the event was the last on their calendar for the year.
“We are very satisfied the way things went and I think the family is happy also,” said Anacoura, noting that they witnessed a lot of family members lending a helping hand and that is what makes them happier.
“It’s always nice and encouraging to see the families helping with the activities,” he added.
He added that they normally allow the proposed beneficiary to step forward, before the committee assesses the proposal, but in 2024, they are planning to organise an international tournament, with the aim of raising more fund for players who need urgent assistance.
“We know that we have issues with availability of the pitch for charity matches and by having an official fund, it will allow access to urgent needs and assistance to players who will need the funding for surgery, airfares, treatments and other issues,” further explained Anacoura.
He also invited sponsors to help in realising the international tournament, while thanking all the players who answer the call of the foundation, giving their support whenever there is a charitable activity.
Founded in 2022, the Legend Foundation is an engaged community for the recognition and well-being of past legendary Seychellois football players, by conducting charitable activities for charity purposes for past football players.
The objective of the foundation is to encourage sportsmanship and recognition beyond competitive sports, while creating a platform to bring along former football players.
It also supports projects to make a difference and give back to former football players.
