International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Central 2 region hosts heartwarming Christmas lunch for its residents

Every December 3, the world observes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and in Seychelles, the district administrations join hands to celebrate also.

The initiative is also to spread the warmth and joy of the Christmas season to every corner of the community.

This year the Central 2 region comprising Roche Caiman, Mont Fleuri, Plaisance and Les Mamelles hosted a lunch for its residents at the Plaisance Hall.

Marie-Anne Florentine, regional chair for the Central 2 region, said there were around 60 persons with disabilities and they were invited for an afternoon of fun.

“Instead of having a separate lunch in each district we merged our efforts in order to give the guests the chance to meet other people.”

Ellie Tirant from Belvedère was very happy to attend the party. “I work at the School for the Exceptional Child and today I came for a Christmas party and a feast for International Day of Persons with Disabilities. I am happy as I have the chance to meet my friends. We will also receive a small gift today.”

Clad in her burgundy dress, Ina Bastienne from Copolia was also excited to be at the party. “I am ready for Christmas and New Year. I have to try my best and be independent. For the New Year I have to cool down and by the grace of God do my best. At home I enjoy doing dishes and watching television. I also enjoy singing and dancing and today I am ready to dance as I am ready to party.”

The special guests had the surprise to have Isham as a guest singer in their party. After the performance, a sumptuous Christmas feast awaited them, with a special menu and drinks.

The district administrators of the four districts attended the event together with elected member for Mont Fleuri, Michel Roucou.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the event.
