Kids’ Athletics Competition

Grand final set for tomorrow

This year’s grand final of the annual Kids’ Athletics Competition will take place tomorrow at Stad Popiler, gathering young athletes from five primary schools representing their respective regions, and also the inner islands.

The event is being hosted by the Kids’ Athletics Committee, under the umbrella of the Seychelles Athletics Federation (SAF).

To qualify for the grand final, the different primary schools – state and private – battled in preliminaries held at regional level, where the winner from each region, along with that from the inner islands was chosen.

The five finalists for Saturday are Glacis, Plaisance, Mont Fleuri, Anse Boileau and La Digue primary schools.

On the event’s programme, which will start at 9am, will be standing long-jump, vortex throw, ball throw (kneeling down), shuttle relay hurdles and formula one obstacle challenge.

At last year’s final, Baie Ste Anne primary emerged as the grand winners, finishing in front of Plaisance primary and Anse Boileau who finished second and third overall respectively.

The Kids’ Athletics Committee is chaired by Gerish Rachel, while Giovanni Fanny is the coordinator, with Linda Jeanne as treasurer and Antoinette Esparon as secretary.

The other members are Rency Balgobin, Beryl Larame, Ricardo Suzette, Sutane Robert and Monica Samson.
