Rotary Club of Seychelles plant medicinal trees at Perseverance North primary school

The Rotary Club of Seychelles yesterday planted medicinal trees at the Perseverance North primary school, in the presence of District Governor Luderce Camalon and Lady Marilynn Camalon.

Marie-Pierre Lloyd, president of the Rotary Club Victoria, noted that Mr Camalon hailed from Reunion Island and is the current Governor of the District, which includes clubs from Mauritius, Seychelles and Reunion.

“In his mandate he has to visit all the clubs. One of his major projects is about the protection of the environment and he wants all clubs to promote the planting of trees. In Seychelles we have chosen the schools to plant trees which align with global efforts to address climate change and promote a greener, healthier planet,” shared Ms Lloyd.

While participating in the tree-planting activity with the crèche kids, DG Camalon emphasised the crucial role of trees in maintaining ecological balance.

“Today we are planting neem trees, which has great health benefits and has been used for many years. The trees will also help in providing shades when you are playing. Please do take care of them and water them regularly.”

The Rotary Club's involvement with the schools around Seychelles aims to instill environmental responsibility in the younger generation, fostering a sense of stewardship for the environment. The event at Perseverance North primary school saw the participation of Rotary Club members, school staff, and pupils. In gratitude, the crèche students expressed their thanks through a song.

During his official five-day visit, Mr Camalon engaged with both Rotary Clubs in Seychelles and the Rotaract Club.
