The Guy Morel Institute hosts 4th human resource forum

Mr Bristol addressing the forum participants

  •           Shares plans and courses for 2024

The Guy Morel Institute (TGMI) hosted its fourth human resource forum yesterday with the aim of engaging with its partners to see how best to boost the cooperation, share challenges being faced and to present the current and upcoming courses.

The human resource representatives from various departments, agencies within the private and public sectors met at the institute and were able to give their input after the presentations were made.

Addressing those present, the institute’s executive director, Patrick Bristol, said the support of its partners is one of the key elements that makes TGMI exist as an institution, as learners from these organisations and institutions are needed to come and study at the campus.

“So it is through your support that we can ensure that there are colleagues from your departments or companies enrolling on all our trainings.”

“We do not want this to be only a TGMI forum but a national one whereby individuals can engage and we want to ensure that whatever input raised by these human resource departments are taken up by the government in the national planning and ensure that we have the workforce that the country needs. As a result, we can have a good partnership between the government and these sectors,” he added.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Bristol said in 2024, the institute wants to run a diploma in sports management and hopes to run another which is still in the development stage, namely a diploma in construction management, as well as other short courses especially in the financial sector and compliance area.

“An area in public sector where we want to focus on is change management. There are various changes that have occurred during 2022-2023. Changes are always happening within organisations and at times there is a lack of preparation in terms of helping staff members of these workplaces to adapt or carry out these changes.”

The presentations centred around the local qualifications, local short courses on subjects such as leadership, management, human resource, business and finance, entrepreneurship, financial services and information technology – office productivity/ technical courses.

During one of the presentations, it was made aware that TGMI has not changed its fees for 2024 but there will be a slight revision at some point towards the end of the first quarter. Organisations will be advised when this will come to force.

The international qualification programmes as well as the upcoming courses at the institute such as an introductory certificate in Seychelles Financial Services were also highlighted.
