• Enabling implementation of SAP course at UniSey

Local bank, Nouvobanq and the University of Seychelles have signed a memorandum of understanding to officially formalise their partnership.

The agreement was signed by the bank’s chief executive Christophe Edmond and University of Seychelles (UniSey) vice-chancellor Joëlle Perreau in a short ceremony held yesterday afternoon at the institution’s campus at Anse Royale, in the presence of representatives of both institutions.

The agreement will enable the implementation of the System Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) course at the university.

SAP is a software used to control all types of critical business functions such as financial auditing, payments and accounting.

By integrating and automating key processes, SAP helps organisations to run faster and more efficiently.

By storing data centrally, SAP software provides multiple business functions with real-time and accurate insight into operations.

The full-time course at the university will be offered to full-time students and in-service employees interested in financial software management.

Addressing guests at the signing ceremony, Mr Edmond said the bank recognises the pivotal role education plays in shaping the future and by joining hands with the UniSey, they have embarked on a journey to not only support academic endeavours, but to also actively engage in the development of knowledge and skills that will contribute to the prosperity of the country.

“Through this partnership, we aim to provide students with real-world insights, preparing them to meet the challenges of a dynamic and ever-evolving global landscape. Additionally, our involvement in research endeavours with the UniSey will contribute to the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and the overall betterment of our society,” Mr Edmond said.

For her part, vice- chancellor Perreau said the UniSey as the highest education institution in the country, cannot do the job of serving the nation without partnerships.

She added that the SAP programme was something they were dreaming to access and thanked Nouvobanq for offering the programme as a gift, not only to UniSey students but to the whole of Seychelles.

“Following the signature, we will also be here to support you as well in any training that you would need for your staff and any other research opportunities you have in mind. Thank you for trusting us, because we do recognise this trust through the work that we do together, and I hope that you would set an example for other companies or organisations, private or public, which would also partner with us on specific projects for the benefit of the country,” said vice-chancellor Perreau.

Head of department of computing and information system who will oversee the SAP implementation, Bernard Songwar, said lecturers will be invited to attend SAP’s webinars and online conferences including access to newsletters and the full curriculum, along with the students.

He noted they were in the ‘train the trainers’ phase of the programme, where five lecturers are waiting to sit for the SAP exam before they can administer the programme to students.

SAP is the leading global provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
