Individuals wishing to study, work and immigrate to Canada had the chance to learn more on how to go about the application process through a presentation given by the Canadian high commission based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The aim of the session at the Citizens Engagement Platform (Ceps) conference room, Orion Mall, on Tuesday was to recruit French speaking people to live outside the province of Quebec, to reinforce and strengthen the francophone communities and economy.
Present was the Canadian high commissioner, Kyle Nunas, who shared a few interesting facts about his country.
He also spoke on the many reasons as to why studying in Canada is a chance not to be missed.
Canada has a number of world leading universities and students can have the chance to even work during the academic years.
Annie Pageau, the deputy migration programme manager based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, said Seychelles has many similarities with Canada as both countries share the same official languages and share diversity and like-minded values.
So having the two languages is a great advantage if you want to work, study and even immigrate to Canada, she added.
In regards to the outreach programme in Seychelles, Mrs Pageau said they will need to assess with the government here if this will continue or not.
It was an exploratory trip and I will come back with my office and we will take it from there, she added.
The presentation covered an introduction on the country, how to apply for a study or work permit, and the programmes that are available for immigration to this North American country.
She noted that the francophone immigration is a very important priority to the government of Canada particularly outside of Quebec. Canada has one bilingual province while other provinces and territories have English as their official language.
“Having francophone communities all over Canada brings a lot of richness and diversity to our culture, and we want these communities vibrant and one way of doing that is through immigration.”
Canada is the second largest country in the world with a population of 42 million, and is composed of 10 provinces and three territories.
