National Assembly committees host joint outreach activity
Two committees in the National Assembly organised a joint outreach session last week as part of activities to mark the institution’s 30th anniversary.
Members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) and the Committee on Communicable Diseases, HIV/AIDS & Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights were at the National Institute of Health and Social Studies to give a presentation on their roles, work being undertaken by both and their achievements.
Present at the session were the director of the institute, Ebrahim Ali, management members, lecturers and students.
The first presentation was by the chairperson of the Committee on Communicable Diseases, HIV/AIDS & Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Rosie Bistoquet.
She spoke about the roles of the committee, activities done, the process flow of work, challenges, and strengths and on the local, regional and international partnerships.
Hon. Kelly Saminadin gave an overview on WPC, which she is part of.
The presentations were followed by an interactive session.
Speaking to the media, WPC chairperson Hon. Regina Esparon said as part of the commemoration of the anniversary, all committees in the National Assembly have been asked to host an outreach programme with post-secondary students.
One of the objectives was to share information on what the members of the committees do aside from debating and the work done in the chamber.
“It is also to show that we do a lot of collaborative work with other partners such as the various departments and non-governmental organisations,” she stated.
