The new St Mary's Hospital on La Digue is operational for all health services effective 8am today.

In a press communiqué, the Ministry of Health has stated that the Logan Hospital will no longer provide health services once the new hospital opens.

“Members of the public seeking any health services must report to the new hospital as of 8am Monday, October 23, 2023,” read the statement.

The telephone number, which has also been transferred to the new facility, remains unchanged.

The new hospital was opened on August 15 by the head of state, President Wavel Ramkalawan, who described it as the most beautiful, modern and state-of-the-art hospital in the country at present.

The facilities include labour room, surgery room, x-ray, ultrasound service, laboratory, and a hospice among others, where patients will be able to receive services such as consultation, dialysis, emergency care, pharmacy and clinical laboratory family health care as well as oral health care.

The projectwas financed through a US $4 million donation from the United Arab Emirates government and R2 million from the La Digue Hospital Fund.
