Mr Madeleine presents his credentials to the Right Honourable Mary Simon

Ian Madeleine presented his credentials to the Governor-General of Canada, Her Excellency, the Right Honourable, Mary Simon on October 13, 2023 as the new non-resident high commissioner (HC) of Seychelles to Canada.

In the tête-à-tête that followed the ceremony, the Right Honourable Mary Simon acknowledged the contributions of Seychelles in the global efforts to combat climate change, protect the environment and promote the Blue Economy.

She expressed Canada’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with Seychelles in areas of mutual interest.

In noting that Canada and Seychelles share similar perspectives on critical issues such as climate change and environment protection, HC Madeleine conveyed that Seychelles is keen to deepen and diversify relations with Canada at the bilateral and multilateral level.

During his visit, HC Madeleine also held bilateral discussions with representatives of Global Affairs Canada to explore how cooperation can be strengthened in key areas including maritime security, climate change, renewable energy and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). He also took the opportunity to reiterate the proposal for the two countries to conclude a visa waiver agreement.

This year marks the 47th anniversary since the two countries established diplomatic relations on June 29, 1976. It is to be recalled that Mr Madeleine, who is based in New York, is also accredited to the USA and Cuba.
