Breast Cancer Awareness

Janick Durup-Bibi

Support the fighters, admire the survivors, honour those taken!

This is the message being passed on by the Soroptimist Club of Victoria for their annual beach walk at Beau Vallon which will take place on October 18.

The walk will start at the Sable d’Or Luxury Apartments, near the Mahek Restaurant at 5pm and those taking part are being called on to dress in pink for the activity.

Soroptimist Club of Victoria organises this walk yearly to show support to breast cancer awareness.

Aside from the beach walk, the traditional ‘Pink Link’ will also be held this year on October 27 at 5pm. This will be done in front of the National Museum of History. The clock tower in the heart of Victoria will also be lit up in pink.

On October 28, the club members will be in various locations to sell pink ribbons to raise funds for cancer awareness projects and members of the public are being called on to donate generously.

The locations will include Orion Mall, Post Office, Market Street, Temooljee’s, STC Hypermarket, Eden Island and Providence.

In an interview, the club’s president, Janick Durup-Bibi, is encouraging everyone to take part in the activities being organised.

“We all have been affected in one way or another by cancer. It might have been through a family member or a friend. So let us join together to support this good cause,” she said.

“Let us take time throughout this month to think of those who have lost their lives, or are still battling and let us not forget the survivors.”

Soroptimist Club of Victoria is part of the Soroptimist International which is a global volunteer movement founded in 1921, working to help transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.

The club, which has 22 registered members, has organised many activities and undertaken many projects across its 29 years of existence in Seychelles.
