SRC extends support to English River home for the elderly
The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) has donated a variety of long shelf life items to the inhabitants of the English River home for the elderly as part of the organisations’ corporate social responsibility programme aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of the community, by giving back to where it matters.
The donation, held on Monday, September 25, 2023, follows the initiative conducted by employees of the Commission to mark the International Day of Charity celebrated yearly internationally on September 5, providing a platform for individuals and volunteers at local, national and international level around the world to engage in charitable activities.
Conducted in the presence of the director general for Support Services of SRC, Christelle Betsy, the small event also saw the participation of the district administrator (DA) of the district, the head of the home for the elderly, SRC staff members from tax, support services and customs division as well as the residents of the home.
Speaking at the event during the handover ceremony, Ms Betsy said: “The English River elderly home is located within the vicinity where SRC operates, therefore it is only fitting that we extend our generosity to the residents of the home.
“As an entity responsible for the country's revenue collection, we also from time-to-time extend our support to the general community. Hence, it is with great pleasure on behalf of all the employees at SRC that I share these goods with the residents of the home, a contribution which came from the heart of the SRC employees who conducted a 'food drive' on International Charity Day marked on September 5, of which I am extremely proud of their remarkable gesture in making this project successful.”
Accepting the donation, the DA, Jency Volcère, mentioned: “I am extremely happy for this kind gesture from SRC. Throughout the year we have knocked on several doors for support to the English River home for the elderly, however not all were successful. SRC voluntarily approached us with its donation last month which we welcomed wholeheartedly. I can see plenty of healthy options among the goods received which I am sure will definitely be enjoyed by the residents.”
The head of the home for the elderly, Julina Havelock, added that such positive contributions do make a difference in the lives of the residents of the home, as it helps them to know that the society at large is thinking about them and their well-being.
She also called on SRC to maintain the relationship established with the home.
Throughout a tour conducted at the facility, the residents of the home also expressed their gratitude to SRC for the aid provided and for recognising the valuable contribution they have also made to society during their years of working.
The English River home for the elderly opened on October 1, 2001 and currently houses 14 residents.
