Dreadlocks Night, a first-of-its kind show in Seychelles |28 September 2023
The first ever ‘Dreadlocks Night’, a music extravaganza celebrating reggae, dancehall and ragga music and artists with dreadlocks, is set to hit the stage on Saturday evening.
The live show, featuring an array of talents including Auspitious, Mercenary, Elijah, Jahrimba, Julia, and many more, will be held at the Music Stadium, from 9pm onwards.
Behind the first-of-its-kind show is L’Echo Productions which comprises Joenise Juliette and Bernaud Cedras, and Mongy Imports, owned by Graham Moncherry.
The event is being supported by Cable Tunes.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Ms Juliette promised that the concert will be an unforgettable event, as the organisers have gone all out to bring together an impressive selection of artists and musicians, including icons Golty Farabeau, and Mauritius’ Blakkayo.
In addition to the line-up, Joenise will be celebrating 35 years in the music industry on the night.
“The artists will be backed up by a lineup of skillful, talented and experienced musicians,” Ms Juliette noted.
Tickets are presently on sale at R250 for early birds, and will be available at the venue at R300 on the night.
The venue will be accessible as from 7pm. Food and drinks will also be available.
Mr Moncherry, who is relatively new to the entertainment industry, seized the opportunity to encourage everyone to support the event.
“The show has potential to become a regional event that can attract people from neighbouring islands and countries,” Mr Moncherry stated, adding that there will be a number of surprises on the night.
Mongy Import launched its inflatable bar and pub earlier this year.
The team plans to make the concert an annual event, Mr Cedras added, remarking that negotiations are under way with a local company to make this a reality.
“We would like to have a concert of this level every year. We would like to see it become a dreadlocks festival where we have people coming from overseas to enjoy the music,” Mr Cedras noted.
Show merchandise will be available on the night, although due to some issues with shipping from the overseas factory, the vast majority will reach Seychelles after Saturday.
For those who prefer to enjoy music in a different atmosphere, the team is also planning to replicate the show at the ICCS, as well as on Praslin.
