Basketball Charity tribute matches in honour of the late coach Clifford Joubert |22 September 2023
For his contributions, both on and off the court, the late coach Clifford Joubert, who left us last Saturday, will be hounoured on Sunday through two tribute charity matches which will take place at the Victoria Gymnasium.
An initiative of a group of basketball lovers, headed by Faizel Naiken and Tracey Moustache, the tribute matches will be thank coach Joubert for his involvement in the sport of basketball, both as a coach, and a father-figure for a lot of young players who he took under his wings.
The first match will feature the 1993 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) women’s selection who won the silver medal under the guidance of coach Joubert, against Anse Etoile Stars who excelled, also under his leadership to be nick-named ‘Queen of the court’ in the late 80s through the 90s.
As for the seconds match, it will feature all generations of PLS Hawks, against the 2011 IOIG gold medal winning selection, along with other players who have trained under coach Joubert.
According to the organisers, all the profit collected from the event will be donated to the family.
Tickets from the matches which will start at 2pm will cost R50.
It is worth noting that last year, the group hosted a tribute match to honour ex-PLS Hawks and Seychelles international player Daniel ‘Yellow’ Victor who left us following a road traffic accident.
Clifford Joubert’s legacies include Seychelles’ men only gold medal at the IOIG, and a women’s silver medal.
